HD DVD

The HD DVD disc format is the alternative to Blu Ray and is generally cheaper for the players with the discs usually being a little cheaper.

The HD DVD discs have a red border on the front of the case and this is important as you have to make sure that you buy the right discs. The HD DVD discs do have a slightly smaller capacity than Blu Ray and so they could hold less content although there are double and even triple layered HD DVD discs and so they can still hold a huge amount of content.

The HD DVD's can support all HD resolutions and so there is no difference between the actual picture quality of these and Blu Ray. They can support up to 1080p and so it all depends on the resolution that your television can support.

The HD DVD players are great because they are cheaper than the alternatives and also offer a fantastic picture quality. There are also more available and so this also brings the prices down and so if you are looking to buy a cheap HD disc player then the HD DVD players are the best choice.

Another great way to watch HD DVD's is to use the Xbox 360 as this has an external drive that is a fully functional HD DVD player and it only costs around £100 which is very cheap. You have to already own an Xbox 360 but it is a great console and it's a very cheap way of getting an HD DVD player.
